How to Become a Member of the
Hamilton Democratic Party
In order to become a member of the Party, one only has to be a resident of Hamilton and fill out a form declaring their affiliation with the Democratic Party. These forms can be found at the Municipal Clerk's office in the Township Municipal Building or at the office of the County Superintendent of
Elections at 640 S. Broad St in Trenton. If unaffiliated with any party, one can also declare themselves a Democrat by voting in the Democratic Party Primary at your designated polling place. A mail-in registration form is available from the Superintendent of Elections 989-6750, the Municipal Clerk or the League of Women Voters 800-792-VOTE or 394-3303. You can also find a form through the State Division of Elections at the following link.
If you want to join the Hamilton Democratic Club, please email us at htdc@att.net and request a membership form. We'll mail one out to you as soon as possible. Please provide us with your phone number so that we may contact you as well. As long as you are a registered Democrat living in Hamilton and the general membership accepts your form you can become a voting member of the club. Those who are not residents may become affiliate non-voting members. Membership fees are $10 a year and includes the cost of the monthly newsletter.
Democratic Municipal Committee
Voters in the Township's 68 election districts elect one Democratic County Committeeman and one Democratic County Committeewoman in the Primary Election to represent
them in party affairs. Their duties include stimulating voter registration, getting out the vote on Election
Day, serving as challengers at the polls, and helping to find qualified citizens to run for local office.
Anyone interested in participating in local political activities may contact the Democratic Pary Municipal Chair, John F. Kroschwitz II.
The Democratic party nominates its local candidates by petition which must be filed with the Township Clerk at
least 40 days before the Primary. The number of signatures needed on the petition must equal at least
5% of the total vote cast in the municipality in the last preceding Primary held for the election of the Democratic party's candidates to the General Assembly.
A candidate for local office must have been a resident and a registered voter for at least one year
before running. If two or more candidates seek their party's nomination for any office, the choice is
made at the Democratic Primary Election.
